Bob Ross would approve of this happy little crater on Mercury. The Messenger Spacecraft snapped this image in October. The crater is 23 miles wide.

Our galaxy is dotted with tiny NASA probes that snap photos like happy space tourists. And these are vacation photo albums that we actually want to see.

It's a real treat when NASA posts a new photo with a caption that reads something like, "Hey, this crater looks like Cookie Monster!" (How could you not click on that?). After staring into space too long, alien landscapes probably start to look like familiar Earth objects. But that's not the case here -- NASA got these doppelgängers right on the money.

We found five relatively recent images of giant craters that have taken the shape of beloved Earth TV characters, human food and even non-alien anatomy.

10. The Epic Supermoon

On a clear weekend in May, the full moon got the closest to Earth that it will reach all year, resulting in what astronomers called the "supermoon." It appeared 14% bigger and 30% brighter than the average full moon.
