DURANGO —A Durango man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison in the shooting death of his brother-in-law.
Joseph Dernoga was sentenced Wednesday in the death of Ted Garcia in 2010. The Durango Herald reports Dernoga told the court he accepted responsibility for Garcia's death, but he offered no motive. Dernoga pleaded guilty in September to second-degree murder.
Dernoga was living in Garcia's basement at the time of the shooting. His sister, who was Garcia's wife, is charged with perjury on suspicion of giving false testimony to a grand jury.
